About Sell Marketing Agency
Sell Marketing Agency is a website for owners of marketing agencies, from digital and creative shops to PR firms and media buying agencies, who are thinking about selling. It takes requests for a free, confidential valuation and publishes guides on what a marketing agency is worth and how to sell a marketing agency.
Who operates this site
The disclosure below appears word for word in the footer of every page and next to each form:
SellMarketingAgency.com is operated by a non-licensed entity and is an affiliate of Wraith Brokerage, LLC (a Delaware LLC). We specialize in marketing agency M&A for performance marketing, creative agencies, and marketing technology companies.
What this site covers
The guides are written for owners of marketing agencies, because an agency sale turns on questions a general business guide skips.
- Pass-through costs. Revenue has to be read net of media, print and outsourced production, which Parakeeto, an agency profitability consultancy, says can otherwise inflate an agency's sense of its revenue.
- Client concentration. Palmer, an M&A firm for marketing and service businesses, advises no single client above 10% of revenue and the top three below 25%. See client concentration and retainers.
- Who holds the clients. Buyers ask whether clients are loyal to the founder or the firm and whether freelancers signed over their work.
- Cash at close. What you receive depends on how much is paid at closing rather than through an earnout.
- Your type of marketing agency. Separate guides cover digital and performance agencies, PR firms and media buying and advertising agencies.
What happens when you request a valuation?
Describe your marketing agency
Your name, contact details, state and revenue range on one short form, plus your website and type of marketing agency if you want to add them. It takes about two minutes.
The details behind the numbers
A useful valuation also needs what a form cannot capture: the questions above, plus how much revenue is on retainer and on what notice.
Your valuation
A value range built from your SDE or EBITDA and the published multiple ranges closest to your agency's size, with what would move it up or down. It is not an appraisal and not an offer.
Your decision
There is no obligation to sell your marketing agency.
Is a valuation request confidential?
Requesting a valuation does not list your marketing agency anywhere or share its details with buyers without your permission. The privacy policy explains what this site collects and how your details are handled.
FE International, a sell-side advisor, calls a leak to clients or staff mid-process the most common self-inflicted wound in agency sales, and says outreach to buyers starts with anonymous profiles, with full information released only after NDAs.
In an asset sale, client contracts move to the buyer by assignment, which can require each client's consent, and the law firm Clark Wilson notes that seeking consents raises confidentiality issues. Whether a contract needs consent depends on its wording and governing law, so check yours with your attorney. How to sell a marketing agency covers when to tell your team and your clients.
Where the estimator's ranges come from
The marketing agency value estimator is not an appraisal or an offer either. It places your agency inside published multiple ranges; where it lands inside a range is this site's judgment from your answers. The worth page sets out every range it uses and how your answers move it.
- Owner-run marketing agencies are often priced on seller's discretionary earnings (SDE), larger ones on EBITDA. BizBuySell says SDE multiples are typically lower than EBITDA multiples, so the two are never compared directly.
- BizBuySell's free pages publish no sold-deal benchmark for marketing agencies, and its marketing and advertising listings also include promotional products, print and signage businesses. The closest sold-deal data there is for graphic and web design businesses, an adjacent category with a small sample.
- EBITDA ranges for larger agencies come from sell-side advisors, such as FE International's 2026 bands for digital marketing agencies: an advisor's published view with no deal count, not a database of closed sales.
- No source we found publishes sold-deal multiples for each type of marketing agency, and the tables we found that split multiples by type give little or no method.
How the facts on this site are checked
The figures here come from a fact base compiled for this site. A second check compared each fact with its source: overstated claims were rewritten to match, and unconfirmed ones were cut.
Each fact carries notes on what it covers (asking or sale prices, SDE or EBITDA, all industries or agencies only, US or UK), and those notes limit how a page uses it. That is why pages say when a figure is one advisor's view rather than deal data, and name the currency of UK and euro figures. Sources were last checked on October 14, 2026, and each page that cites figures lists its sources at the end.
What this site is not
- It is not a listings marketplace. It does not publish marketing agencies for sale.
- It is not legal or tax advice. Confirm anything you plan to rely on with your attorney or CPA.
Many rules in a sale depend on the state and on your contracts. California and Minnesota, for example, allow a non-compete from an owner who sells the business, under conditions each statute sets. Under U.S. copyright law, a freelancer's work for your marketing agency is yours only if it qualifies as work made for hire or the freelancer assigned it to you in a signed writing.
